Garmong served as Construction Manager for the Vigo County School Corporation at Woodrow Wilson Middle School (WWMS) for the addition of a new auxiliary gymnasium, band room, interior remodel of the old band room into a weight training fitness area, two new bathrooms and a concessions area.
The new auxiliary gym allows for two, simultaneous classes to be held during the school day or two, simultaneous athletic team practices to be held during off hours.
The new 1,750 sq ft band room has been equipped with acoustic wall panels, a 12-14 ft ceiling slope for added acoustical benefits, instrument/equipment locker storage and microphone outlets built directly into the floor to allow for recording capabilities. The old band room was converted into a state-of-the art, weight training fitness area for both students and staff to utilize.
Unique to this project is the fact that WWMS is listed on the National Register of Historic Places for its architectural and engineering significance. This made matching the brick and limestone façade on the new additions critical. Many hours were invested by VCSC, WWMS and Garmong team officials to ensure the aesthetics of the facility were preserved.
In addition to Garmong’s role as Construction Manager on this project, our engineering company Hannum, Wagle & Cline Engineering provided design services for the new south side bus drive. The bus drive allows for more efficient student transportation access from Poplar Street and can accommodate up to eight buses.
